Dunhill: Cumberland (5111F) (2021) (9mm) Tobacco Pipe

Product Number: 002-015-6327

In Group 5 size, Dunhill's "11" Lovat shape starts to take on some subtle, seemingly Italian proportions. The bold bowl up front offers no shortage of chamber, the relative size between shank and bowl emphasized more so than, say, Group 2 or 3 renditions. Arrow straight out back, the elongated shank and abbreviated stem remains sleek and streamlined, making for an elegant piece that offers a generous chamber and ever-classic profile. Found here in the iconic Cumberland finish, this example wears a striking sandblast and the eponymous matching stem material for an aesthetic that's both rugged and refined.

When Alfred Dunhill released his patented Shell Briar, he forever changed the pipe-smoking world at large. Dunhill has often been credited with being the first to offer sandblasted pipes (arguably the most popular finish today), and the Cumberland finish further displayed Dunhill's innovative spirit. Well received after its release in 1979, the Cumberland series was named for the English marque's warehouse on Cumberland road, and the line's signature, brindled vulcanite stem became so iconic, the warmly striated material is now referred to simply as "cumberland."
