Dunhill: Shell Briar (3102) (2021) Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 002-015-6409
Dunhill's iconic "02" bent Billiard showcases the English marque's ability to create sweeping shapes that maintain well-balanced proportions. This rendition is no different, with the pert, upright bowl paired to a high-kicking shank and arcing tapered stem, creating a willowy S-curve that hangs easily from the jaw. The elegant curvature of the piece renders a rather fluid profile, one that draws the eyes from rim to bit. The stummel wears the Shell Briar sandblast, handsomely accentuating rippling grain on both flanks.
The Shell Briar's addition to the Dunhill catalog was a pivotal moment in pipe-smoking history. Before 1917, pipes with sandblasted finishes had never been made, and Alfred Dunhill's innovative mind created arguably the most popular finish for pipes today when he unveiled the Shell Briar. With its dark, reserved color palette and delightful texture, it's no surprise that it's still wildly popular over a century later.
