Dunhill: Shell Briar (3129) (2021) Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 002-015-6420
Looking at a standard Dunhill shape chart, you might notice that the Author design is not seen, nor does a "29" shape exists. The Author is a form rarely rendered from Dunhill, so much so that they don't even feature it on their shape chart, making it a highly sought after commodity, coveted by collectors. It makes an appearance here, though, in a Group 3 size and Shell Briar finish for a thoroughly dressy and masculine aesthetic.
The Shell Briar's addition to the Dunhill catalog was a pivotal moment in pipe-smoking history. Before 1917, pipes with sandblasted finishes had never been made, and Alfred Dunhill's innovative mind created arguably the most popular finish for pipes today when he unveiled the Shell Briar. With its dark, reserved color palette and delightful texture, it's no surprise that it's still wildly popular over a century later.-Truett Smith
