Dunhill: Cumberland Quaint Dublin (2) (2018) Tobacco Pipe

Product Number: 002-015-6591

Historic English marque Dunhill is no stranger to classic, traditional designs, as that is what they've become known for throughout their over 100-year history, though they're also quite adept in crafting more novel, imaginative designs, such as those found in their Quaint series. This line is specifically defined by its freedom from the White Spot's shape chart, though compared to other members of the series, this Dublin is a rather conservative offering. A wide transition gives way to a fairly trim, round shank that's married to a lengthy, tapering stem, this combination balancing a plump, bulb-like bowl at its fore. This bowl flares out gently from a firm heel, expanding into a broad, domed rim reminiscent of the Acorn, offering plenty of canvas for the Cumberland sandblast to reveal handsome grain.

When Alfred Dunhill released his patented Shell Briar, he forever changed the pipe-smoking world at large. Dunhill has often been credited with being the first to offer sandblasted pipes (arguably the most popular finish today), and the Cumberland finish further displayed Dunhill's innovative spirit. Well received after its release in 1979, the Cumberland series was named for the English marque's warehouse on Cumberland road, and the line's signature, brindled vulcanite stem became so iconic, the warmly striated material is now referred to simply as "cumberland."
