Dunhill: Cumberland (3306) (2019) Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 002-015-6595
Dunhill's "06" Pot is a classic, solid, and straightforward shape and represents what many consider to be the epitome of the classic English Pot. This example is rendered in Group 3 proportions and offers excellent proportional balance. From its chamber capacity, to its overall length, and the way the mouthpiece elegantly tapers to the button, there's a lot to appreciate about this design. The bowl's heel as well as the shank's underside are flattened, permitting this piece to sit soundly on flat surfaces and adding to its versatility. It's presented here in the rustic Cumberland finish, the majority of the stummel finished in a texturally pleasing sandblast while the smooth rim offers a touch of contrast.
When Alfred Dunhill released his patented Shell Briar, he forever changed the pipe smoking world at large. Dunhill has often been credited with being the first to offer sandblasted pipes (arguably the most popular finish today), and the Cumberland finish further displayed Dunhill's innovative spirit. Well received after its release in 1979, the Cumberland series was named for the English marque's warehouse on Cumberland road, and the line's signature, brindled vulcanite stem became so iconic, the warmly striated material is now referred to simply as "cumberland."
