Dunhill: Cumberland Quaint Dublin (3) (2022) Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 002-015-6596
The Quaint series from Dunhill is a particular line for pipes that aren't standard shapes on the English marque's numbered chart, giving the workshop lots of creative freedom, as epitomized in this Group 3-sized Dublin. A firm heel and flaring bowl grab the visual weight from the extremely streamlined shank-and-stem combination, resulting in a striking aesthetic. The earthy Cumberland sandblast reveals an amazing array of grain, and the rim is smooth for textural contrast.
When Alfred Dunhill released his patented Shell Briar, he forever changed the pipe smoking world at large. Dunhill has often been credited with being the first to offer sandblasted pipes (arguably the most popular finish today), and the Cumberland finish further displayed Dunhill's innovative spirit. Well received after its release in 1979, the Cumberland series was named for the English marque's warehouse on Cumberland road, and the line's signature, brindled vulcanite stem became so iconic, the warmly striated material is now referred to simply as "cumberland."-Truett Smith
