Dunhill: Cumberland Quaint Dublin (5) (2019) Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 002-015-6604
This Dublin by Dunhill is part of their Quaint series of pipes, which is reserved for pipes that fall outside Dunhill's traditional shape chart, however, the Group 5 size makes this pipe anything but quaint. The sides of the bowl are concave, forming a parabolic arc from the domed rim to the flat bottom, which gives this pipe a solid sitting stance. The stummel and tapered stem possess the same dark-brown color palette from Dunhill's Cumberland finish.
When Alfred Dunhill released his patented Shell Briar, he forever changed the pipe-smoking world at large. Dunhill has often been credited with being the first to offer sandblasted pipes (arguably the most popular finish today), and the Cumberland finish further displayed Dunhill's innovative spirit. Well received after its release in 1979, the Cumberland series was named for the English marque's warehouse on Cumberland road, and the line's signature, brindled vulcanite stem became so iconic, the warmly striated material is now referred to simply as "cumberland."--Zach Podl
