Dunhill: Chestnut (5128) (2019) Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 002-015-6620
Though a classic shape, the Diplomat is not one often fashioned, even by a workshop as traditional as Dunhill. As such, this Group 5 example is perfect for collectors of classic English pipes, with The White Spot's example here conforming perfectly to the archetypal form. The bowl is plumply round like an Author's, but the shank is oval of cross section, making for a more trim shank-and-stem combination in profile while also accentuating the bow's curvature.
A sibling to the Cumberland, Dunhill's Chestnut finish was inaugurated in 1983 to commemorate the closing of the Cumberland Rd. warehouse for which the Cumberland finish was named. Like the Cumberland, pipes in the Chestnut line wear the same dark, smoky stain and are fitted to stems of cumberland but feature a silky smooth, glossy finish compared to the Cumberland's rugged sandblast.
