Dunhill: Bruyere (6401) (2019) Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 002-015-6694
Usually, Dunhill's "01" shape is a classic straight Apple, and while the stummel of this pipe adheres to that traditional form, it's fitted to a slightly bent stem — as designated by the "4" in the shape stamp. We've seen such renditions of the "01" before, and they're typically on the larger end of the English marque's size spectrum, with this one representing Group 6 proportions, Dunhill's largest standard size. That size makes for a palm-filling pipe that suits the robust curves of the Apple shape well, while the slightly bent stem balances the form out for a more comfortable, hands-free smoking posture.
The Bruyere was Alfred Dunhill's original finish upon launching his brand of premium pipes and smoking accessories and was the only Dunhill finish from 1910 until 1917. Even after the addition of other finishes, the Bruyere maintained a high level of popularity, becoming synonymous with what is thought of, even today, as the quintessential pipe. To achieve the iconic, ruby hue and saturation, a skilled craftsman painstakingly layers particular stains in a precise manner, then meticulously polishes the pipe to a high luster. The final result is, simply put, timeless.
