Dunhill: Dalmatian 2019 Shell Briar (3103) (74/81) Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 002-015-6764
The Dalmatian dog, known for its iconic, black-spotted, white coat, originated on the Dalmatia coast of Croatia, with images depicting the beautiful breed dating back the the 1600s. Dalmatians became status symbols among the nobility, fetching high prices before becoming even more popular upon the publication of British author Dodie Smith's The One Hundred and One Dalmatians in 1956 (and the subsequent Walt Disney movies it inspired).
In honor of this historic dog breed, Dunhill presents the limited edition Dalmatian line, represented by 20 Black Briar pipes and 81 Shell Briar-finished number — adding up to an appropriate total of 101 pieces. Shape-wise, Dalmatian pipes are a classic "3103" Billiard, defined by a unique military mount made from erinoid. One of the first plastics, erinoid was patented in Britain in 1911 and could be dyed in many bright colors, before being replaced by oil-based plastics. Dunhill's discovery of a cache of erinoid in their factory and its black-spotted hue inspired the Dalmatian line and makes for the perfect accenting touch on these exquisite pieces. Each pipe comes presented in its own leather display case and is accompanied by a dalmatian-themed tamper fashioned from sterling silver.
