Dunhill: Bruyere Quaint Bent Dublin (2) (2019) Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 002-015-6819
Dunhill's Quaint series showcases designs that don't fit into the English marque's standard shape chart. These more individualized shapes fall within a broad range, though, in how non-traditional they are. For example, this bent Dublin hews closely to Dunhill's "21" Zulu design — a staple shape within their portfolio — yet in this Group 2 piece, stem has been noticeably extended, accentuating the light curl from bit to transition. The flare of the bowl is also a touch more dramatic and the heel firmer, lending the bowl a more poised disposition, especially when combined with the the slender shank and stem behind. Dressed here in the Bruyere finish, it's an excellent piece for those interested in one of Dunhill's smaller offerings and one that's a bit more unique, but still classic overall.
The Bruyere was Alfred Dunhill's original finish upon launching his brand of premium pipes and smoking accessories and was the only Dunhill finish from 1910 until 1917. Even after the addition of other finishes, the Bruyere maintained a high level of popularity, becoming synonymous with what is thought of, even today, as the quintessential pipe. To achieve the iconic, ruby hue and saturation, a skilled craftsman painstakingly layers particular stains in a precise manner, then meticulously polishes the pipe to a high luster. The final result is, simply put, timeless.
