Dunhill: Cumberland (3204) (2023) Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 002-015-6940
An archetypal design from Dunhill's timeless shape-chart, this "04" Bulldog epitomizes streamlined and muscular Anglo-French shaping. The pert bowl possesses two conical domes that meet at a crisp, mid-set waistline, imbuing the piece with a sturdy character. Out back, the arrow-straight diamond shank continues the geometric motif, the sharp ridges framing the keen profile of the "04" in pointed detail. Topped off by a sleek saddle stem, this Group 3 piece is dressed in the rugged texture of Dunhill's cumberland finish.
When Alfred Dunhill released his patented Shell Briar, he forever changed the pipe-smoking world at large. Dunhill has often been credited with being the first to offer sandblasted pipes (arguably the most popular finish today), and the Cumberland finish further displayed Dunhill's innovative spirit. Well received after its release in 1979, the Cumberland series was named for the English marque's warehouse on Cumberland road, and the line's signature, brindled vulcanite stem became so iconic, the warmly striated material is now referred to simply as "cumberland."--Zach Podl
