Dunhill: Cumberland (4112) (2016) Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 002-015-6958
The traditional Billiard typically features a bowl with a height that matches the length of the shank. The Chimney, or Stack, though, alters that proportion, with a Billiard bowl that extends in height beyond the shank's length. The Stack is still a classic shape but one with intentionally disparate proportions for the sake of greater chamber depth, and Dunhill's "12" design is a textbook example of the form. It's presented here in Group 4 size, offering plenty of chamber in a impressively lightweight form — all dressed in the earthy sandblast of the Cumberland series.
When Alfred Dunhill released his patented Shell Briar, he forever changed the pipe-smoking world at large. Dunhill has often been credited with being the first to offer sandblasted pipes (arguably the most popular finish today), and the Cumberland finish further displayed Dunhill's innovative spirit. Well received after its release in 1979, the Cumberland series was named for the English marque's warehouse on Cumberland road, and the line's signature, brindled vulcanite stem became so iconic, the warmly striated material is now referred to simply as "cumberland."
