Dunhill: Bruyere (2108) (2019) Tobacco Pipe

Product Number: 002-015-7286

Dunhill's "08" shape code defines two different shapes depending on the rendition, both a bent Bulldog and a Rhodesian, with this particular piece being the latter. A sinuous and handsome pipe, this iteration of the classic shape is a timeless one, staying true to Dunhill's archetypal Anglo-French shaping style. Presented in petite Group 2 size, this light briar yet retains a muscular look thanks to its robust bowl and gracefully curved shank and stem. Said pairing lifts out of a wide transition and curls into a comfortable arc that makes smoking easy and enjoyable, their dynamic posture lending the composition a charming character. The bowl here stands atop a firm heel and flares into a high-set waist marked with a firm ridgeline, this waist additionally marking an easy taper to the flat rim.

The Bruyere was Alfred Dunhill's original finish upon launching his brand of premium pipes and smoking accessories and was the only Dunhill finish from 1910 until 1917. Even after the addition of other finishes, the Bruyere maintained a high level of popularity, becoming synonymous with what is thought of, even today, as the quintessential pipe. To achieve the iconic, ruby hue and saturation, a skilled craftsman painstakingly layers particular stains in a precise manner, then meticulously polishes the pipe to a high luster. The final result is, simply put, timeless.
