Dunhill: Bruyere (3407) (2019) Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 002-015-7297
The Prince shape is one of the most elegant, charming profiles in all of the pipe world, and it's one that entered smoking canon to honor an actual prince, when Dunhill debuted it as the "314" in 1921 in celebration of Edward VIII, Prince of Wales: a regular client of Albert Dunhill's Duke Street shop. The "07" is Dunhill's modern Prince interpretation, and it maintains all the sophisticated allure for which the silhouette is known, though it's presented in a variety of different arrangements. While it's paired to the Prince's iconic, slightly extended, and demurely bent stem, the Bowl here eschews the expected Apple-like shaping in favor of a more Tomato-like build that expands as it reaches toward the rim. Regardless, the feel in hand is comfortable and supple, and the stummel is finished in the warm tones of the timeless Bruyere finish: showcasing handsome grain throughout.
The Bruyere was Alfred Dunhill's original finish upon launching his brand of premium pipes and smoking accessories and was the only Dunhill finish from 1910 until 1917. Even after the addition of other finishes, the Bruyere maintained a high level of popularity, becoming synonymous with what is thought of, even today, as the quintessential pipe. To achieve the iconic, ruby hue and saturation, a skilled craftsman painstakingly layers particular stains in a precise manner, then meticulously polishes the pipe to a high luster. The final result is, simply put, timeless.
