Dunhill: Bruyere (4407) (2022) Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 002-015-7310
I really love the Prince shape, and Dunhill's renditions of this classic profile are some of the most gracile that I've encountered. The Prince is one of the most elegant shapes conceived by man, and arguably the most elegant on the standard shape chart, with the White Spot's "07" iterations of the profile looking nearly effortless in their gracile poise. Coming in both straight and bent iterations, this bent version is my favorite of the two, pairing a trim shank with a lengthy, subtly curved stem that promises comfortable smoking posture. This shank and stem combination balances a supple, plump bowl with ample curvature, its build canted forward gently for a subtle bit of dynamism. Dressed in the deep, dark stain of the Bruyere series, this pipe's stummel showcases beautiful grain throughout.
The Bruyere was Alfred Dunhill's original finish upon launching his brand of premium pipes and smoking accessories and was the only Dunhill finish from 1910 until 1917. Even after the addition of other finishes, the Bruyere maintained a high level of popularity, becoming synonymous with what is thought of, even today, as the quintessential pipe. To achieve the iconic, ruby hue and saturation, a skilled craftsman painstakingly layers particular stains in a precise manner, then meticulously polishes the pipe to a high luster. The final result is, simply put, timeless.
