Dunhill: Shell Briar with Silver (3106) (2021) Tobacco Pipe

Product Number: 002-015-7456

A timeless, well-balanced shape, this "06" Pot from Dunhill features a broad, squat bowl that pairs elegantly to the lengthy shank-and-stem arrangement. Rendered in Group 3 size, this handy piece maintains a light weight thanks to the flattened oval shank and tapered mouthpiece of jet-black vulcanite. The sleek lines of the shank and stem keep the profile of this piece crisp and streamlined, with very little visual noise distracting from the broad bowl. The inky Shell Briar sandblast dresses the composition and highlights stellar grain around the bowl, while an accent of sterling silver adorns the junction and lends a touch of flash to the overall form.

The Shell Briar's addition to the Dunhill catalog was a pivotal moment in pipe-smoking history. Before 1917, pipes with sandblasted finishes had never been made, and Alfred Dunhill's innovative mind created arguably the most popular finish for pipes today when he unveiled the Shell Briar. With its dark, reserved color palette and delightful texture, it's no surprise that it's still wildly popular over a century later.
