Dunhill: Shell Briar (3407) (2021) Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 002-015-7463
Fitted to a slightly bent stem, this Dunhill "07" Prince presents a more sleek, regal form than many other shapes on the classic pipe chart. Rendered in Group 3 size, this interpretation takes on a svelte nature, being streamlined through the shank and elongated stem while the squat, bulb-like bowl is perched at the end. Offered here in the Shell Briar series, this one is dressed in a deep, inky sandblast, revealing handsome grain throughout and keeping the palette understated and reserved.
The Shell Briar's addition to the Dunhill catalog was a pivotal moment in pipe-smoking history. Before 1917, pipes with sandblasted finishes had never been made, and Alfred Dunhill's innovative mind created arguably the most popular finish for pipes today when he unveiled the Shell Briar. With its dark, reserved color palette and delightful texture, it's no surprise that it's still wildly popular over a century later.
