Dunhill: Shell Briar with Silver (4105F) (2016) (9mm) Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 002-015-7472
An archetypal rendition of the classic form, this Group 4-sized "05" Dublin from Dunhill boasts a tall, thick-walled bowl that flares from its firm, rounded heel to its broad, flat rim. Said bowl is situated at the fore of a sturdy shank and a trim tapered stem, the latter of which lends a touch of sleekness to the shape's silhouette. The inky Shell Briar sandblast dresses the stummel and highlights gorgeous grain across the briar's surface, while an accent of sterling silver adorns the junction and ties the composition together with a dose of flash. Furthermore, this piece boasts an "F" stamp, meaning it can accommodate a 9mm filter.
The Shell Briar's addition to the Dunhill catalog was a pivotal moment in pipe-smoking history. Before 1917, pipes with sandblasted finishes had never been made, and Alfred Dunhill's innovative mind created arguably the most popular finish for pipes today when he unveiled the Shell Briar. With its dark, reserved color palette and delightful texture, it's no surprise that it's still wildly popular over a century later.
