Dunhill: Ring Grain Quaint Lovat (4) (2019) Tobacco Pipe

Product Number: 002-015-7542

Dunhill's Quaint line offers unique designs that do not adhere to the English marque's standard shape chart. The designs are both highly creative and highly collectible, and this Lovat is no exception. Presented in handy Group 4 size, his piece boasts all of the form's characteristic features, including a sturdy, upright bowl, a protracted round shank, and an abbreviated saddle stem. All of those aforementioned features culminate in a composition with a sleek, streamlined profile that allows the stummel's finish and grain to take center stage. Said finish is the crisp Shell Briar sandblast, which highlights a showing of ring grain so gorgeous that Dunhill awarded this piece their Ring Grain designation.

Having earned the English marque's prestigious Ring Grain designation, this Dunhill piece wears a particularly choice iteration of the Shell Briar sandblast — displaying stunning waves of ring grain across the stummel. The Shell Briar's addition to the Dunhill catalog was a pivotal moment in pipe-smoking history. Before 1917, pipes with sandblasted finishes had never been made, and Alfred Dunhill's innovative mind created arguably the most popular finish for pipes today when he unveiled the Shell Briar. With its dark, reserved color palette and delightful texture, it's no surprise that it's still wildly popular over a century later.
