Dunhill: Bruyere (2308) (2023) Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 002-015-7647
Dunhill's "08" shape code defines two different shapes depending on the rendition, both a bent Bulldog and a Rhodesian, with this particular piece being the latter. A sinuous and handsome pipe, this iteration of the classic shape is a unique one, boasting a "3" in its second shape code digit: defining this pipe's extended tapered stem. Presented in petite Group 2 size, this pipe's remarkably lithe shank and stem afford the composition an active, dynamic stance and comfortable smoking posture. The shank itself curls out of a wide transition to meet the stem's lengthy stretch of black vulcanite, nicely balancing the presence of the bowl. Said bowl stands on a rounded heel and grows flaring walls that expand to a high-set waist marked by twin beadlines, additionally denoting the form's iconic taper to the rim. Dressed in the rich stain of the Bruyere finish, this pipe showcases handsome grain throughout.
The Bruyere was Alfred Dunhill's original finish upon launching his brand of premium pipes and smoking accessories and was the only Dunhill finish from 1910 until 1917. Even after the addition of other finishes, the Bruyere maintained a high level of popularity, becoming synonymous with what is thought of, even today, as the quintessential pipe. To achieve the iconic, ruby hue and saturation, a skilled craftsman painstakingly layers particular stains in a precise manner, then meticulously polishes the pipe to a high luster. The final result is, simply put, timeless.
