Dunhill: Bruyere (5113) (2019) Tobacco Pipe

Product Number: 002-015-7654

Dunhill's "13" bent Apple is a unique shape, taking on some considerable variation across Group sizes, typically taking on stout, plump proportions in smaller Group sizes, with larger renditions boasting more imposing bowls and tapering curves reminiscent of the bent Egg. This Group 5-sized "13" hews much closer to the latter example, with a robust bowl at the fore that stands on a low-set waist and tapers dynamically up toward the rim. Out back, a round shank lifts high, pushing out of a tight transition to meet a black vulcanite stem that's smartly curved for comfortable smoking: the posture promising easy jaw-hanging. Dressed in the deep, rich stain of the Bruyere finish, there's plenty of handsome grain to appreciate throughout the stummel.

The Bruyere was Alfred Dunhill's original finish upon launching his brand of premium pipes and smoking accessories and was the only Dunhill finish from 1910 until 1917. Even after the addition of other finishes, the Bruyere maintained a high level of popularity, becoming synonymous with what is thought of, even today, as the quintessential pipe. To achieve the iconic, ruby hue and saturation, a skilled craftsman painstakingly layers particular stains in a precise manner, then meticulously polishes the pipe to a high luster. The final result is, simply put, timeless.
