Dunhill: Cumberland (5111F) (2023) (9mm) Tobacco Pipe

Product Number: 002-015-7676

With its strapping Group 5 proportions, this "11" Lovat from Dunhill boasts considerable muscularity throughout its composition, rendering this iconic, well-measured rendition with plenty of substance. A hearty bowl is positioned at the fore with an upright posture, formed by thick walls curving subtly from the heel and then traveling straight toward the rim. Transitioning from the bowl is a round, protracted shank that pairs to the requisite saddle stem, making for a silhouette that's both streamlined and full-figured. Additionally, this piece has been drilled to accommodate a 9mm filter, indicated by the shape code's "F" stamping. Dunhill's beloved Cumberland finish dresses the stummel in a crisp, earthy sandblast, complemented by the rich, swirling tones of its signature stem.

When Alfred Dunhill released his patented Shell Briar, he forever changed the pipe-smoking world at large. Dunhill has often been credited with being the first to offer sandblasted pipes (arguably the most popular finish today), and the Cumberland finish further displayed Dunhill's innovative spirit. Well received after its release in 1979, the Cumberland series was named for the English marque's warehouse on Cumberland road, and the line's signature, brindled vulcanite stem became so iconic, the warmly striated material is now referred to simply as "cumberland."
