Dunhill: Ring Grain (3106) (2023) Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 002-015-7704
With its trim physique and lightweight build, this "06" Pot from Dunhill is a particularly portable Group 3 rendition. Positioned up front is a pert, petite bowl, with stout, straight walls rising from heel to rim. The bowl joins to a slender shank and gradually tapering stem out back, the arrangement keeping this piece sleek in profile. Deserving of its Ring Grain designation, the stummel here displays dense waves of growth rings beneath a crisp, inky sandblast, its rippling pattern sure to delight the eyes and the hand.
Having earned the English marque's prestigious Ring Grain designation, this Dunhill piece wears a particularly choice iteration of the Shell Briar sandblast — displaying stunning waves of ring grain across the stummel. The Shell Briar's addition to the Dunhill catalog was a pivotal moment in pipe-smoking history. Before 1917, pipes with sandblasted finishes had never been made, and Alfred Dunhill's innovative mind created arguably the most popular finish for pipes today when he unveiled the Shell Briar. With its dark, reserved color palette and delightful texture, it's no surprise that it's still wildly popular over a century later.
