Dunhill: Shell Briar (4105F) (2016) (9mm) Tobacco Pipe

Product Number: 002-015-7745

Dunhill's "05" Dublin is a bold rendition of the shape-chart standard. From a firm heel, the walls of the bowl flare to form the classic bell silhouette of a Dublin's fore, eventually reaching a flat rim that looks into a respectable tobacco chamber. Out back, an acute transition gives way to a linear shank-and-stem arrangement whose vulcanite mouthpiece gradually tapers to the button. This particular "05" is rendered in handy Group 4 size and is dressed in Dunhill's Shell Briar finish. Additionally, this piece also features an "F" stamp, meaning it can accommodate a 9mm filter.

The Shell Briar's addition to the Dunhill catalog was a pivotal moment in pipe-smoking history. Before 1917, pipes with sandblasted finishes had never been made, and Alfred Dunhill's innovative mind created arguably the most popular finish for pipes today when he unveiled the Shell Briar. With its dark, reserved color palette and delightful texture, it's no surprise that it's still wildly popular over a century later.
