Dunhill: Shell Briar with Silver (3110) (2024) Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 002-015-7873
Dunhill's "10" can take the shape of two different profiles, either a Liverpool, or, in this case, a Bing's Favorite style Billiard. As is usually seen in these kind of pipes, the shank and stem showcase a sleek, extended length that, while low-profile and quite lightweight, balance the visual weight of the comparatively large bowl quite well. The junction here is marked by a bright silver band that provides a healthy dose of elegant flash amid the dark sandblast of the Shell Briar finish, which dresses the stummel.
The Shell Briar's addition to the Dunhill catalog was a pivotal moment in pipe-smoking history. Before 1917, pipes with sandblasted finishes had never been made, and Alfred Dunhill's innovative mind created arguably the most popular finish for pipes today when he unveiled the Shell Briar. With its dark, reserved color palette and delightful texture, it's no surprise that it's still wildly popular over a century later.
