Dunhill: Cumberland (3105) (2018) Tobacco Pipe

Wonderfully balanced between bowl and shank, this rendition of Dunhill's "05" Dublin exemplifies the classic shaping standards for which The White Spot is known. The silhouette of this Group 3 design could well serve as an archetypal example of the traditional straight Dublin. The bowl flares consistently to a flattened rim and is canted slightly forward to balance the stretch of shank and stem behind. The vulcanite stem maintains the dark palette of the stummel, which wears a concise application of the Cumberland sandblast.

When Alfred Dunhill released his patented Shell Briar, he forever changed the pipe-smoking world at large. Dunhill has often been credited with being the first to offer sandblasted pipes (arguably the most popular finish today), and the Cumberland finish further displayed Dunhill's innovative spirit. Well received after its release in 1979, the Cumberland series was named for the English marque's warehouse on Cumberland road, and the line's signature, brindled vulcanite stem became so iconic, the warmly striated material is now referred to simply as "cumberland."
