Dunhill: Shell Briar (4207) (2023) Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 002-015-8069
While Dunhill's standard "07" Prince shape is typically defined by a squat, rounded bowl, an abbreviated shank, and a long, slender stem, this particular Group 4-sized iteration features a saddle stem, as indicated by the "2" in the pipe's shape code. This subtle modification lends a bit of extra substance to the pipe's usually slender aft while maintaining the pipe's overall balanced proportions. Besides the aforementioned alteration, it remains a faithful rendition of the classic form, here dressed in the English marque's distinguished Shell Briar finish.
The Shell Briar's addition to the Dunhill catalog was a pivotal moment in pipe-smoking history. Before 1917, pipes with sandblasted finishes had never been made, and Alfred Dunhill's innovative mind created arguably the most popular finish for pipes today when he unveiled the Shell Briar. With its dark, reserved color palette and delightful texture, it's no surprise that it's still wildly popular over a century later.
