Tom Eltang: Rusticated Poker with Bamboo
Product Number: 002-299-0364
Unless a Poker has either a short-throw shank and bit (or, conversely, a compositionally dominant bowl) some forward cant is a given, in order for it to be a sitter. Tom may be a wizard pipe maker, but he can't alter the laws of physics laws in order to make a cool pipe. As you can see in the photo, this Poker features a slight cant to offset a delightfully long shank and bit. I just took an exact angle reading of the bowl (trust me, The Simpson's 'Dr. Frink' doesn't have squat on the top of my desk and my trusty iPhone plumb-line) and that cant is only 7.25 degrees off of vertical true. We have the force of a 3.82" lever (if you will), upon a 1.18" base, being offset by only 7.25 degrees of cant. To my mind, the chief amazement isn't that it can sit, but that is does so with incredible stability. Well, to be honest, the chief amazement lies in the beguiling shape, Tom's sandblasted/rusticated hybrid finish and creamy bamboo, but a pipe is a package. Am I right?
