The game is word association, and the topic is "Tom Eltang shapes". GO!
"Eskimo, Pac-Man, Horn, Cutty, Poker, Brandy, Egg, Tubos, Elephant's Foot, Dublin, Tulip, Volcano, Acorn. that one shape that's technically a bent Dublin, but looks like a wicked stalactite, conventional neo-classic Bulldog (really!), the 'Knife Pipe', Tomato." Billiard? Yes, Tom makes them. In fact, though considerably different, the Stanwell '208' shape was created by Tom. Still, a traditional Billiard from Tom is scarce enough that I normally wouldn't associate the same with this carver. This is only the fourth smooth Eltang Billiard to go on our site, and only one other was a saddle Billiard.
So, how is Tom Eltang with a shape which many declare to be the toughest to freehand on the planet? Seriously, would you expect the answer to be anything other than 'wow!'? The bowl is decently sized (roughly 2" x 1.8") and the shank matches the bowl in terms of generosity. The bit is exactly equal to the combined length of the bowl and shank, and sterling silver ring provides a perfect bridge from the shank onto the saddle. Superb grain, super pipe.--R. 'Bear' Graves
