Tom Eltang: Sandblasted Bent Egg
Product Number: 002-299-1161
When shaped by Tom Eltang, the Egg shape is easily recognized as the work of the renowned Danish carver. Like his other renditions, this piece boasts a generous amount of forward-urging momentum. Said dynamism starts with the sleek lines of the sinuously bent shank and stem combination — oval of cross section and flaring gradually toward the transition, the streamlined form moves swiftly into the bowl, thrusting the piece's visual weight forward thanks to the shank's pinched nature. At the bowl, then, the active lines continue through the bowl's forward cant while the rim remains horizontal to create a lip effect at the fore. The rounded heel and consistent, underlying curve keep the in hand feel natural and comfortable, and the easy transition makes for a handy thumb rest. All dressed in one of Tom's dark stains, accented by a smooth polished, walnut-stained rim, the low-profile sandblast is of typical Danish style that's consistent with Eltang's signature aesthetic.-Truett Smith
