Tom Eltang: Sandblasted Bent Pot Tobacco Pipe

Product Number: 002-299-1162

This bent Pot from Tom Eltang ably showcases his minimalist style as well as his highly creative approach to classic shapes, utilizing the creative vision that he's spent decades cultivating to deliver memorable and impressive interpretations of traditional forms. And while we've received a handful of straight Pots from Tom of the years, this is the first bent variation we've encountered. It's a conveniently sized piece from the legendary Danish artisan, measuring just slightly over five inches long and boasting a fairly light weight.

The oval shank is broad and somewhat compressed along its horizontal axis, complementing the bowl's breadth and squat disposition. The slightly curved rim adds a playful touch to the profile and gives the bowl the impression of forward momentum, an element that's further accentuated by the saddle stem's extremely subtle downturn. Tom has finished this piece in a light depth sandblast, carefully preserving the clean line work while unveiling an impressive array of undulating grain around the bowl's flanks. A trim band of smooth, walnut stained briar accents the shank end, offering modest contrast against the rest of the composition's dark color palette.
