Tom Eltang: Smooth Oscar Tobacco Pipe

Product Number: 002-299-1171

Named after his grandson, Tom Eltang's Oscar shape is a take on his signature Eskimo design that prioritizes more fluid and curvaceous line work. When viewed from above, this piece displays the same rounded bowl and broad-flaring shank as the Eskimo; however, in profile, the Eskimo's Bulldog bowl is traded for a more supply, almost Acorn-like design. Most characteristic of the Oscar, though, is the indented nature of the transition: Ridgelines run the shank's sides before curling upward around the bowl's aft side, curling it backward like a cresting wave. Such shaping creates beautiful negative space and echoes the upward flicking nature of the half-saddle stem, while also providing a natural thumb rest for practical comfort. Tom designed the Oscar shape for Chacom, and this rendition is only the second we've ever received that was crafted by Tom himself, dressed here in a ruby stain and representing one of the Danish artisan's more rare signature shapes.
