Tom Eltang: Smooth Bent Dublin Tobacco Pipe

Product Number: 002-299-1180

Tom Eltang's influence on the world of pipe making is unquestionable, and his name is often brought up by younger pipe makers as a pivotal influence. With nearly 50 years of experience and a prolific work ethic, the Danish artisan produces shapes both classic and unique with equal skill and brings that talent to bear here with a stunning bent Dublin. Of generous length and height, this is a pure Danish rendition, with an inflated rim, gestural asymmetric flare of bowl, a rounded and lifted heel, and a gentle transition that flows seamlessly into a rounded shank.

The bowl surges forward, eager to be smoked, while the shank and stem offer a more demure posture, the latter curling downward just slightly to offer a comfortable smoking posture. Tom picked a striking piece of briar for this pipe, with incredibly uniform, tight striations of straight grain all around, and elevated it to brilliance with a smooth finish and orange and black contrast stain so vivid it appears three-dimensional. From the svelte, hand-cut and funneled vulcanite mouthpiece to the birdseye-packed rim, this is a slick piece of smoking machinery, a functional piece of art in no need of further adornment.
