Tom Eltang: Smooth Billiard Tobacco Pipe

Product Number: 002-299-1393

Tom Eltang knew when he was a child that he wanted to be a pipe maker. At age 16, he apprenticed to Anne Julie, and his career in pipe making began. After working with Julie for three years, he moved onto the Pipe Dan workshop and later to Stanwell. Then Eltang set out on his own in 1980, and has crafted pipes under his name ever since. Based in a workshop in Copenhagen, Eltang produces nearly any shape one can think of and utilizes myriad finishes. Although Eltang's catalog of pipes is vast, they are all united by his classic Danish style.

This Billiard by Tom Eltang exquisitely captures the iconic proportions of the classic shape. The slightly forward-canted bowl is quite tall, with the trim walls gently tapering to the rim. Furthermore, the bowl showcases some soft shaping, with the barely inflated rim and the supple heel giving the bowl a svelte character. Out back, the proportional shank and stem offer the elegant, arrow-straight profile that makes the Billiard such a timeless shape. Additionally, Eltang dresses the stummel in one of his signature contrast stains, showcasing thick streaks of vertical grain in a gorgeous blend of dark walnut tones and bright chestnut hues.
