Tom Eltang: Smooth Acorn Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 002-299-1497
With over 50 years of experience, Danish artisan Tom Eltang is widely regarded as one of the most influential figures in modern pipe making. His passion began in childhood and led to an early apprenticeship under Anne Julie at just 16. From there, he refined his craft at Pipe Dan and Stanwell before launching his own workshop in 1980. Known for his mastery of shaping and contrast staining, Eltang's work reflects the principles of Danish Functionalism—clean lines, thoughtful design, and timeless utility.
This Acorn is a quintessential example of Tom Eltang's design sensibility, blending Danish precision with sculptural grace. Easily identifiable as one of Eltang's creations, the pipe showcases his mastery of fluid lines, supple curves, and a deep understanding of visual balance. The bowl rises confidently from a pronounced, slightly pointed heel, its form swelling outward into thick walls that taper to a chamfered, domed rim. The bowl's gentle forward cant gives the silhouette an active stance, imbuing the profile with a bit of languid momentum. The shank is a striking feature of the pipe: long and gently curling, it tapers subtly as it extends from a broad, mid-set transition. As the shank ends, it seamlessly joins the shoulders of a softly bent black vulcanite saddle stem. The stummel wears a warm, smooth finish that reveals vibrant flame grain radiating from the heel, with the pattern terminating in tight birdseye across the rim.
