Erik Stokkebye 4th Generation: Argang Dark Porter (1897) (9mm) Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 002-787-2116
This muscular, broad-bowled bent Pot from 4th Generation corresponds to Erik Stokkebye's 1897 blend, which honors the birthdate of Erik Stokkebye's grandfather, Erik Paul, the second generation of the Stokkebye family's long standing tobacco tradition. As a pipe, the "1897" was designed for Erik Stokkebye 4th Generation by Peder Jeppesen of Neerup, and it's a design that beautifully reflects Peder's recognizable shaping aesthetic: The bowl is thick-walled and full-bodied, contrasted by the comparatively slender shank-and-stem combination's elegant curvature. Such shaping combines for a pipe that fits substantially in hand, with a wide presence for wrapped fingers, that also hangs comfortably hands-free.
The low-profile sandblast of the Dark Porter series offers just the right hint of texture in hand while still maintaining the lines of this pipe's silhouette. Such a combination is typical among Danish pipes and is reflected in Peder Jeppesen's handling of this finish. The maker behind Neerup pipes, Peder also fashions a number of Erik Stokkebye 4th Generation's pieces, merging his own artistic style with the tobacco brand's rich, familial tradition. That aesthetic is evident in the Dark Porter's subtly contrasting stain, the prominent porter hue darker than 4th Generation's similarly inspired Brown Ale series but interspersed with lighter sections for added depth and a rich, black-and-tan motif.
