Flávia Rodrigues: Sandblasted Pot Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 002-839-0009
Flávia Rodrigues has certainly stepped into her own as a carver, showing immense confidence and skill through her use of striking finishes, vivid color palettes, and expert engineering. Here, the Brazilian artisan presents a straight Pot that combines elements of the French and Danish traditions. The arrow straight, svelte lines of the piece and overall smaller size would easily fit this form into an early 1900s catalog of a classic French marque, yet the easy transition and consistent taper through the shank toward the button lend it the grace and elegance often associated with the Danish school. Adding her own modern and naturalistic take, though, Flávia has adorned it all in a striking color palette, pairing a rugged, red orange-stained sandblast to a cumberland stem of swirling notes of sand and ebony. Beautiful work all around from Rodrigues and an impressively creative mix of traditional and modern motifs.
