Flávia Rodrigues: Smooth Volcano with Copper Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 002-839-0010
While Flávia Rodrigues derives much of her pipe making inspiration from the natural world, her style often favors classic shapes accented with natural materials such as horn, mammoth, and jabuticaba wood. Flávia has consistently demonstrated her immense talents with her various Brandy, Billiard, and Prince renditions but here the Brazilian carver has produced one of her more overtly organic designs: a sure-sitting Volcano. It's one of the lightest, most compact Volcanoes I've seen from an artisan pipe maker and bespeaks Flávia's remarkable talent and versatility. The squat bowl displays a gradual, natural taper from its broad base up toward the rim with a wealth of flame grain following the taper from the firm ridgeline. Underneath that ridgeline, a mesmerizing sea of swirling birdseye dominates the entire underside and highlights the attention Rodrigues pays to maximizing the briar's grain potential. The Brazilian artisan has then accented the shank end with copper — a medium not often seen on pipes, its pinkish-orange color pairing handsomely with the stummel's rich walnut stain.
