Flávia Rodrigues: Smooth Devil Anse Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 002-839-0017
Taking its name and inspiration from the History Channel's Hatfields & McCoys miniseries, the Devil Anse is a dynamic and compact rendition of the classic Belge shape. It's defined by a rounded Egg-like bowl that cants dramatically at the fore a slender, arrow-straight shank-and-stem arrangement. This particular offering of the shape comes from Flávia Rodrigues, a talented artisan from Brazil who takes inspiration from carvers like Hans "Former" Nielsen, Chris Asteriou, and Tom Eltang. Rodrigues tends to fashion lively, organic shapes, but this Devil Anse finds the artisan working in a more reserved, understated style.
Measuring less than five inches in total length, this piece is both compact and lightweight, making it perfect for easy pocket-carry and on-the-go smoking. The plump, voluptuous bowl cants at the fore of the composition and lends the overall design a dynamic posture. The bowl tapers swiftly from its broad base to its tauter rim, while the arrow-straight shank-and-stem arrangement stretches out back and keeps the form sleek and crisp in profile. The bowl, shank, and stem are all harmoniously balanced with one another, resulting in a design that's quite elegant in hand. Dressed in a smoky, chestnut-hued smooth finish, the stummel displays feathery whispers of flame grain that capture the eye. A unique and stylish bit of craftsmanship, this piece will no doubt become a cherished member of any pipe smoker's collection.--Davin Hylton
