Flávia Rodrigues: Sandblasted Long Shank Pot Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 002-839-0021
Flávia Rodrigues is a talented Brazilian pipe artisan known for her innovative reinterpretations of classic shapes, each piece reflecting her distinct creative vision. Her work masterfully combines expert engineering with stylish finishes and striking accent materials, showcasing her deep appreciation for pipe making as an art form. Under the mentorship renowned pipe maker Gustavo Cunha, and influenced by the works of Tom Eltang, Hans "Former" Nielsen, and Chris Asteriou, she quickly developed her own unique style.
A modernized rendition of the classic shape, this Pot by Rodrigues sees a squat bowl at the fore of a low-set shank and stem arrangement. What makes this piece unique is the proportions; the bowl seems almost shortened, proudly displaying the broad rim's handsome array of blasted birdseye. Additionally, the low-set shank matches half the height of the bowl, creating a low-lying, static effect through the composition. The shank's robust proportions are met by the shoulders of the vulcanite stem, carrying this visual heft all the way to the tapering bit. Rodrigues finished the stummel in a dark sandblast, highlighting stacked growth rings along the bowl's flanks, pairing well with the vulcanite stem for an overall reserved color palette.
