Alex Florov: Smooth Blowfish with Masur Birch

The Blowfish has gone through a lot of transformations over the years, from its original, fully-rounded design, to a paneled variant, now taken as the "standard" form, to all manner of freehand reinterpretations. This Alex Florov is quite a complex and dramatic descendent of that ever-branching family tree, presenting numerous sweeping planes and a swooping, beautifully smooth switchback play of line along the left flank that would right at home on one of Maigurs Knets's wilder Art Nouveaux-inspired freehands.Fitting to this highly unusual, distinctive take on the Blowfish, Alex has used an equally unusual piece of cumberland for the stem, wild in pattern and dominated by the lighter, (and seemingly rose-tinted) burnt-orange part of the material, rather than the black.
