Former: Smooth Bent Egg
Product Number: 002-017-0269
Hans "Former" Nielsen's aesthetic could be described as being defined by a juxtaposition of firm linework and smooth, sweeping curvature, and this bent Egg example practically epitomizes this approach. From the forward-poised, gestural bowl topped with a sweeping, cupped rim, to the gently tucked transition leading the eye to a languid trail of cylindrical shank, it's certainly an exercise in contrasting geometry, and one rendered in some seriously generous proportions. A single curved line defines the underside from bit to rim, while the turned base of the lightly down-turned saddle stem offers a sense of visual resolution, utilizing some implied negative space as a counter-point to the large bowl in profile. One of Former's warm contrasts highlights sweeping flame all around, along with a broad swath of birdseye on the underside. An impressive piece to be sure.
