Former: Sandblasted Bulldog Tobacco Pipe

When Former makes a traditional shape, he does it well, as one might expect of a craftsman with over 60 years of experience and who has played a foundational role in Danish pipe making. This classic Bulldog projects the shape-chart standard with a slightly rounded heel and soft curvature below the twin beadlines. The juxtaposition of the geometrically precise diamond shank with the roundness of the lower bowl emphasizes the attributes of both. A more angular contraction to the rim returns the flow of line to the more structured character, while the rim itself is smooth and beveled for elegant contrast of color and texture.

The blast is medium-deep and well defined, its growth rings oriented to the crisp beadlines at the waist while speckled sandblasted birdseye dominates the upper bowl and shank. Straight Bulldogs don't often appear in Former's portfolio — they are more often bent. In this this composition we're treated to a straight Bulldog of particularly traditional appeal.
