Gabriele: Sandblasted Tomato with Boxwood (Turtle)
Product Number: 002-533-0047
I find that certain shapes fall into a category shared with Darjeeling tea (please bear with me)
. It's been said "The harder your first-flush Darjeeling is to describe, the better the tea", and so I find with a stylish Tomato: the more resistant to pigeon-holing within a strict aesthetic, the more I like it — obviously, your mileage may vary.
The equator of this bowl is perfectly spherical (caliper verified), but the rim presents a slight lean to the fore, and the tobacco chamber subtly follows its lead. Due to a combination of an expansion of the shank and very little accompanying curve, though low slung (and insert every other adjective normally seen before "speeder") there is very little implied movement, proving that a squat Tomato needn't suggest a hunger for aviation-grade fuel, in order to create a sense of fascination. Great stuff.
