Gabriele dal Fiume is unique within the Italian pipe-making tradition. Though from Bologna and influenced by the Italian school, Gabriele's style hews closer to the Danish tradition, creating pieces with svelte lines and gentle curves often in more compact packages. This Tomato is a fine example of Gabriele's ecumenical style, featuring a curvaceous bowl with a plump midriff that urges forward gently near the rim. Behind the pinched transition, a muscular round shank curves upward to meet a slim hardwood accent its point of conjunction to a comfortably bent cumberland stem. Dressed in a crisp sandblast, the stummel boasts well-defined growth rings in rich hues of walnut and crimson.
