Geiger: Smooth Reverse Calabash Rhodesian Tobacco Pipe
Product Number: 002-564-0034
Defined by a tight curling gesture at the underside, this reverse Calabash Rhodesian from Sara and Love Geiger is a powerful number. It's stout, yet fluid, the muscular shank tapering from a broad, domed face to a neatly pinched transition, and from there, to the elegantly asymmetrical bowl. There's a bit of undulation to the softly-inflated rim, with a wavy surface giving way to rightward-ebbing ridges at the aft and fore, evoking the look of a frozen body of water caught in the midst of a particularly choppy current, while also calling to mind the work of Kei-ichi Gotoh.
As for the grain, it's nothing short of spectacular. With nary a line out of place, flame guides the eye up the left flank to a crisp beadline ridge, and subsequently to a rim thoroughly packed with birdseye. The more softly-shaped right flank seems to lend the whorls the appearance of cascading off the edge of a flat earth, careening down to the flame below. Brilliant work.- Daniel Bumgardner
