Geiger: Smooth Reverse Calabash Fig on Branch
Product Number: 002-564-0046
Sara Mossberg and Love Geiger can fashion some seriously evocative, unique pieces, with dramatic Freehands like their Speared Fish and Wasp renditions. Comparatively, this Fig on Branch shape is relatively tame, exuding a sense of soft plumpness and overt muscularity coupled with a touch of balanced asymmetry and organic dynamism. Like the plump namesake fruit juxtaposed with the sturdy limb of a tree, this piece makes use of the slightly more crisp-lined shank to throw focus to the more corpulent bowl, bolstered as it is by the shape's characteristic spur at the underside. This more softly-shaped, leftward-ebbing spur seems more unified with the bowl in profile than the previous Fig rendition we've seen from the Swedish couple, and it also seems to tread closer to the original, too. There's a large swath of natural plateau at the shank's underside, only briefly affecting the piece's silhouette, and it's finished in one of Sara and Love's fantastic contrast finishes, highlighting no shortage of stunning flame and birdseye. Lovely stuff.- Daniel Bumgardner
