Geiger: Sandblasted Wasp
Product Number: 002-564-0058
Geiger Pipes, made by Sara Mossberg and Love Geiger, often combine traditional shaping cues with those of the more organic and asymmetrical variety. The Swedish duo's signature Wasp shape, however, falls fully in that wilder, Freehand aesthetic, differing greatly from any pipe chart standard. It's a singular design, born out of Sara and Love's creativity, and one that beautifully captures the pair's artistic eye and skillful craftsmanship.
Though this Wasp looks nothing like Geiger's Bodog rendition, the two forms share one design element in common: a dramatically pinched transition that effectively pits the shank and bowl against each other visually, lending the profile a striking sense of disparity between its components. That said, while visually separated, the bowl and shank here perfectly complement each other's curves — their opposing arcs contrasting one another yet fitting together like the ancient Yin and Yang symbol.
The striking form is clearly informed by its namesake, with the heel even coming to a slight point to resemble a stinger. Furthermore, the shank features the cooling chamber of a reverse Calabash, yet another common engineering element from Sara and Love. The wide stem base fits perfectly flush with the shank, thanks to the brass wedding band accent lining the mortise. The brass also adds elegant flash against the dark-stained sandblast — a finish not often seen from Geiger, making this a particularly distinct Wasp rendition.-Truett Smith
