Following a smooth, continuous, arcing curve from end to end, this is a gorgeous take on the Danish Horn from Peter Heding. While somewhat more conservative than his often evocative, biologically inspired pieces, this fluid work of functional art is no less impressive. The precision in his lines, the balance and flow of the visual weight in profile, even the subtle contrast between the smooth doming of the boxwood accent and the crisper lined stem base all speak to Peter's uncanny skill at the shaping wheel. But its more than that. You only have to glance at the block's perfect cross-cut grain orientation to see that Peter puts the briar's natural beauty first, with the overall shaping serving as a mere complement to the inherent grain pattern at play. Lovely piece.
